Nov 1Sun 40 Days for Life! Pray for an end to abortion¦ 40 Days for Life: September 23 to November 1, 2009
Bl. Pier Giorgio was known for spending tireless hours in prayer, serving the poor and standing up fearlessly to the anti-clerical Fascists. In our own time we see the pressing need to pray for our own government and the pro-death mentality of many American people. One opportunity to focus your prayer is to plug into the 40 Days for Life campaign, which includes 40 days of fasting, prayer and 24/7 peaceful vigil on public sidewalks in front of abortion clinics all around the country.

Locally, the Vigil will take place in front of Health Partners Regions Hospital at 640 Jackson St. in St. Paul (55101), one of six places in the Twin Cities where abortions are performed. You can commit yourself to a specific hour / day by calling Brian Walker of Pro-Life Action Ministries at 651-771-1500 ext 211 or just stop by with a friend when you are able and pray a rosary. To sign up online, go to http://40daysforlife.com/twincities/

Even if you are unable to attend the vigil, you can pray and fast for this cause. It is so simple, yet this national effort has seen a huge impact around the country (abortion facilities are reported to have closed, abortion workers have quit their jobs, and over 1,000 babies were saved in one of the last campaigns)! Know that prayer (especially the rosary) and fasting are weapons that can change the course of history. Take your post and be not afraid.

If you are unable to get to Regions Hospital, one of the other locations where abortions are performed may be closer to you:

If you go http://www.40daysforlife.com you can sign up for daily email announcements and receive news flashes from around the country. I personally don't care for daily emails but this one was exciting to receive because they were constantly reporting all the babies lives that were known to be saved, the clinic workers that sought information and the eventual closing of a clinic at the end of one 40 Days event! Since we will rarely hear this on the news, they give us hope when hope is hard to find.

One of the most important -- no actually, the most important -- thing for our patron, Pier Giorgio, was prayer before our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. It was the source of his strength, his love, and his sanctity. Without prayer Frassati would have been a wit, an outdoorsman, and an activist -- but not a Blessed. So too our Society, without our Holy Hour, would be just another club. But with prayer as your center things like camping, friends and good brew become not just pleasures unto themselves but something sacramental that can help us along on our journey to the Inn at the End of the World, where the Laughter never ends and the Joy never runs dry. So come, join us.
